How the salary converter works
Remote job listings quote pay in every format: an hourly rate in US dollars, a monthly salary in euros, a yearly range in pounds. The converter turns any of them into the others so you can compare offers side by side.
- Enter the amount and how often it's paid.
- Pick the currency it's paid in and the one you think in.
- Adjust the hours per week and paid weeks per year if your job isn't a standard 40-hour week.
- Choose the country you live in to see what the salary buys there.
The formulas
Everything is converted through a yearly figure. With the defaults of 40 hours a week and 52 paid weeks:
- Yearly = hourly rate × 40 × 52 (2,080 hours)
- Monthly = yearly ÷ 12
- Weekly = hourly rate × 40
- Daily = weekly ÷ 5
Currency conversion uses the daily mid-market rate. Banks and transfer services usually take a small cut, so budget for a little less.
What purchasing power parity tells you
A remote salary paid in dollars or euros can go much further in a country where everyday things cost less. Purchasing power parity (PPP) estimates that difference. The converter divides the World Bank's PPP conversion factor by the market exchange rate to get each country's price level compared with the United States.
Treat the result as a rough guide. It's a national average, so rent in a capital city, imported electronics and international travel can cost far more than the number suggests. Taxes and social contributions aren't included either.
